The Description of Our Site
PrinceOfPop.com

Our site, Andy Warhol: The Prince of Pop is a look at one of the most influential artists in history, Andy Warhol. The site features three art pages: Andy’s Art, and More Art, each which feature 9 of Warhol’s famous works; and include Andy’s first published drawing; and Soup’s On, a page which features Andy’s soup paintings, which make up the majority of our art. This site also features three main pages: our home page; our media page, which features media related to Andy Warhol; and our prospectus page which has our prospectus. In this description, we hope to provide a better view of our site.

Much of the research included in this site was taken from the school and public libraries. Here, we found many books of art by Warhol and books on his biography. All of this information was used in our prospectus, our captions for the pictures featured on the site, and general information about what happened during the time in which Andy Warhol was famous. We also took information about Warhol’s history from some books that we had in our houses. A major source used for the text on our site was the internet, from which we got many pictures featured on our site, as well as all of the Warhol media on our media page. These sources were the basis of the composition of our website.

During the time of the “Pop revolution” in which Andy Warhol was famous during the 1960s and early 1970s, America had engaged in the Cold war. America reached the moon on July 19, 1969, the president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. were all assassinated. America was also training and defending soldiers in South Vietnam from being taken over by Communism, as well as opening diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. The Women’s Feminist movement was also taking place in America. These revolutions inspired Warhol and allowed his fans to view America from a different perspective.

Andy Warhol’s paintings revolutionized the way people then thought about art. Through his art, Warhol had said how commercialized life had become, and this was the message that people took in from his art. Pop culture and art had existed long before Andy Warhol had become famous, but it was his art that got the pop revolution started. Through his art and his movies, Andy Warhol showed people that art was everywhere, from galleries to kitchens. This makes him and his work quite relevant and a large contribution to history.

Andy Warhol is relevant to the History Day Los Angeles topic, "An Individual in History" because he started the Pop art revolution and showed people of the 1960s life the way it really was. Through this website, we hope to show you how Andy Warhol’s works affected the art and real world, and what resulted from those effects. Andy Warhol was an original artist who showed people that life then was not.
